Well, my old standby Nero failed to install, and IsoRecorder v2 wouldn’t install, and v3 installs, but didn’t appear to work.
I found however that the dvdburn.exe utility that is included with the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools did the trick.
I installed the resource kit tools under Vista, and then just had to open a cmd prompt and type:
dvdburn d: {imagefilename} /erase
where {imagefilename} was the fully qualified path to the iso image I wanted to burn.

Does ImgBurn work under build 5308 of Vista? The only mention of Vista that I could find anywhere on the ImgBurn website was from a newbie poster in the forums claiming that it works flawlessly under Beta 2. The download page also links to ASPI drivers from Nero and Adaptec. Are these required for ImgBurn to work?
I guess for a quick and dirty iso burn, I’d still go with the W2003 Resource Kit utility, since ImgBurn has a few too many unanswered questions and I really didn’t need a GUI for this anyway. I’m sure that Nero will soon support Vista (if they don’t already, haven’t tried lately). That’s my preferred tool. This post is mostly intended to help folks that are in a pinch trying to burn an image under Vista.

hey thanks for the post, I had assumed vista could do this natively, was stuck in a data centre trying to burn some server utilities for firmware upgrades, and I found your site. cdburn.exe works for cd isos too.

Just downloading the install file of ImgBurn v1.3.0.0 (800 KB) and installing that works flawlessly under vista beta 2.
Tried the W2003 Resource Kit utility, wanted to burn Vista RC1 ISO to DVD+R, and the process failed for me, wasted a DVD. I guess if you are going to try it, make sure you’re using a rewriteable disc.
Ever since Vista Beta2 I have been using ImgBurn, mentioned in the comment by Marco above. Looks like the RK tool doesn’t work anymore…

The old Resource Kit from 2003 did NOT work for me using Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. ImgBurn, however, did.
ImgBurn burned a DVD from an .iso using Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 on a Dell Studio One with a 64-bit Pentium E5200 dual core CPU.
