The last time I hit a contact limit, it was at 999 contacts (http://rickhallihan.com/imported/what-do-you-mean-my-address-book-is-full/). Maybe this limit is specific to the import process. If so, you could try splitting up the CSV file into chunks of 99 lines. It's just a text file, so you can use Notepad to save 99 lines at a time.

I am only allowed to have 100 contacts imported over. this is not enough. I was told to use the new live.com account for a while and this would change. It has not. This is ridiculous. See error message below. What can I do? Thank you.

There was a problem importing your contacts.

Your address book is full. To add new contacts, you'll need to delete some existing contacts.

Try importing your contacts again

Return to contacts

Hi Rick. Good post. I agree. I've been using temp email address for more years than I care to admit ;) My ex and I used to ask the cc companies to issue us new numbers once in a while, kind of for the same purpose. What was funny was how many were reluctant to issue new numbers. I always felt they would benefit from this in the long run also. guess not. So we were forced to lie and say the cards were stolen.

Thank you so much for this post and the pictures. We just bought a used 07 Grand Caravan and the door stopped working today. We were so disappointed and thought it would cost us hundreds to fix it....which we weren't going to do. My husband is so proud of me for fixing the car. :)

Thanks!

It will be interesting to see if our battery dies soon....

I broke up with my Windows Mobile companions for over a month. My first Windows Mobile was some HP job. I them moved to a Dell Axim 50x, then to my first smartphone, MPx200. I've owned 7-10 WM devices. I am now on a BlackJack. I love it. I conviced myself I wanted to try the Nokia N75 Symbian N-Series phone....HUGE MISTAKE!!! I am now back to my BlackJack. Don't get me wrong. Microsoft needs to step it up a notch or two, but I think the iPhone will get those wheels in motion. Good Luck. Hope to see you back soon.

Seriously, if you have the choice and library to support such a move I would be the first in line. I would like to be able to program an evening of Viewing.

Based on a subscription like cable but programming is done by me and the content library vast and huge(every show ever made) is also there. No DRM schemes. Content is either streamed or provided real time. Central server with extenders located in the various locations. Standard based connectivity.

One other thing, standard programming will still be available but if you want to watch LOST S1 EP13, you search and watch. Think of the shows that could be brought back to life because they were always shown in a crappy time slot and no one ever caught on to it.

I tested this out and it works great, plus it eliminates step 9 above.

If I remember correctly the CX2620 is pretty comparible as a base to the other two, the main difference being that it's a fixed configuration for retail. Whether or not it's worth it to return it is going to depend on the options that are on the M285 or CX210. When I bought my CX2620, it came with all of the options that I would have wanted on a custom machine, and it ended up being cheaper.

Any updates about running Vista on the CX2620?

Just bought an open-box CX2620 for $849 from Circuit City and plan on putting Vista on it this weekend. I noticed that Gateway has refurbished M285's for $600-800 and a new CX210 start at $999(w/free Vista upgrade) and I am wondering if I should spend a few hundred more or keep the 2620.

Tom,

I get a lot of what you are saying, and I see a lot of brand benefit from keeping Windows intact, but I also look at how 90% of the population uses computers at home and I wonder if keeping Windows for the consumer is really the best way to go. For a lot of folks, computers are just a gateway to email and the web. Personal media and information storage are things that keeps me from being on-board with the "thin-client" crowd.

Microsoft has tried something along these lines a couple times in the past with WebTV, and MSN TV. While those devices never really took off, I think there's a market for these appliance type devices if they capture enough of the consumer usage scenario.

It would be a very gutsy move if Microsoft were to decide to cannibalize some of their Windows market share this way, and I wouldn't think it would be a smart move unless they were pretty certain that they had to do it to avoid losing market share to their competitors. Apple is making some pretty compelling plays at moving into the living room as a digital hub. If Apple comes out with a "it just works" media hub, and Microsoft doesn't have something ready to put head-to-head with it, Microsoft may find itself locked out of the living room. The iTV we have all heard about may be one spoke on that hub.

Like I said above, I agree with a lot of your comments, this is just a crazy idea I had last night that I wanted to put out on the web.

Another angle could be that the Zune Desktop shouldn't be seen as replacing Home Edition, but rather as an alternative for folks that don't really use all the capabilities of a Windows PC. And the Zune Desktop would have to really live up to the ideas of seamless integration, syncronization & true plug and play.

Thanks for your comments!

No no no! I can see the motivation for making "Home" and "Pro" editions of windows more dramatically different (perhaps strip the new games explorer from "pro" and make games / media stuff more prominant in "home") but essentially abandoning Windows for Zune would be suicide.

Windows as a brand has massive recognition, (how many times have I or others had to describe Linux as being "another OS, like Windows only different.") A lot of people expect Windows to be powering their computer and leaving that behind would cause confusion.

Not to mention that a large amount of the windows traction at home comes from the fact people use windows at work, and are familiar with it. Even if your "Zune Desktop" is just a re-shelled version of windows you're going to confuse users and weaken the brand.

On a side note you'll notice no doubt that Microsoft have kept the XBox brand well away from the word microsoft, and with Live, and Vista they seem to be stripping out Microsoft from all over the place.
